Cofides invests 40 million euros in Elian soybean plant

The Spanish state-owned company Cofides has invested 40 million euros into Elian, the owner of a soybean crushing plant located at the Port of Barcelona. This investment grants Cofides a 13.8% stake in the company, while Viserion International will retain 86.2% of the capital.

The funds are intended to support a major expansion project for the facility, which is budgeted at 300 million euros. The goal is to increase the plant's surface area to 90,000 square meters and boost its plant protein production capacity for human and animal consumption to 870,000 tons by the end of 2028.

Elian, which acquired the plant from Cargill in 2024, reported a turnover of 400 million euros last year. With Cofides joining the board of directors, the company aims to strengthen European sovereignty in plant protein production.
