COGESA landfill expansion criticized as political failure

Center-left political groups in Sulmona have criticized the decision to expand the Noce Mattei landfill, labeling it a sign of political and managerial failure. They argue that the expansion is not a solution but a consequence of years of mismanagement and a failure to address waste issues proactively.

Critics suggest that COGESA requires more authoritative and competent governance focused on public interest. They advocate for improving Mechanical Biological Treatment (TMB) efficiency and implementing necessary interventions for Solid Recovered Fuel (CSS) production to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills. The opposition has called for the mayors of Sulmona and other member municipalities to take responsibility and demand an immediate change in governance.
