Cognac teen rape case results in five‑year sentence, three years custodial

A 19‑year‑old man was convicted by the Angoulême criminal court for raping a 15‑year‑old girl in Cognac in December 2022. The court found he forced sexual intercourse despite the victim’s repeated refusals, and a medical examination confirmed the rape and post‑traumatic stress disorder. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, with three years to be served in prison, and ordered to undergo treatment and work obligations. The judgment also bans him from contacting the victim and from entering Cognac.

The victim’s father highlighted the severe psychological impact on his daughter during the hearing. The defendant, who suffers from schizophrenia and used drugs, had previously sent sexual messages to the victim after the assault.
