Cognizant Holds OpenAI Codex Hackathon for 10,000 Employees Across Six Indian Cities
On July 30, 2026, Cognizant partnered with OpenAI to run its first global Codex hackathon in India. The event, themed “Engineering the Frontier,” took place in six cities—Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Coimbatore and Kochi—and involved 10,000 Cognizant associates.
Participants received hands‑on training with OpenAI Codex, attended masterclasses, and collaborated to build AI‑powered coding solutions. OpenAI’s Vice President of Strategic Global Partnerships and Ecosystems, Colleen Kapase, said the hackathon was a key step toward scaling Codex skills for enterprise customers. Cognizant India President Rajesh Varrier highlighted the goal of combining human judgment with frontier AI tools to deliver business value. The company plans to hold additional similar events to expand its AI Builder community.
