Cohep rejects participation in Adolfo Ráquel’s energy reform proposal

The Honduran Private Sector Council (Cohep) has officially distanced itself from an energy reform proposal presented by Deputy Adolfo Ráquel. Cohep stated it has not participated in any socialization, analysis, or formal consultation regarding the project, learning of its contents only through third parties. The organization clarified that it does not endorse the proposal and will not assume responsibility for its technical, legal, or economic implications.

Raquel’s proposal includes recognizing certain study permits issued by the Electricity Regulatory Commission (CREE), establishing mechanisms for renewable energy prices in the spot market, and expanding tax benefits for renewable generation and storage projects.

Meanwhile, Julieta Castellanos, former rector of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), criticized the energy reform process as becoming a tool for political negotiation. She argued that political factions are prioritizing partisan interests over the necessary improvements to the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE), noting that the resulting financial losses and debts ultimately fall upon the taxpayers.
