Coherent launches PhotonLink platform for AI data centers

Coherent has announced the launch of PhotonLink, an integrated optics platform designed to provide complete optical solutions for next-generation AI data centers. The platform integrates various photonics technologies, including InP lasers, VCSEL arrays, silicon photonics, and detectors, to support co-packaged optics (CPO), near-packaged optics (NPO), and emerging chip-to-chip connectivity.

CEO Jim Anderson stated that the next advancement in AI requires new methods of connectivity beyond faster chips. The platform addresses four key functions of the optical path: Generate, Shape, Guide, and Receive. Coherent reported having more than 10 CPO engagements, more than 10 NPO engagements, and over five chip-to-chip engagements, with anchor customers and long-term agreements already secured.

Market projections suggest the total addressable market (TAM) for this technology could reach $90 billion by 2030. Revenue from the PhotonLink platform is expected to begin ramping in the fourth quarter of CY2026.
