Coimbatore, India: Five killed after car crashes into stationary lorry

A five‑person car collision on the Pollachi‑Udumalpet National Highway near Nallampalli Pirivu in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, left all occupants dead. The vehicle, reportedly travelling at high speed, struck the rear of a stationary water‑tanker lorry that was parked while workers watered roadside plants.

The victims were identified as Kanagaraj E (42), his wife Boomamaheshwari K (42), their daughters Aarthi K (24) and Namrutha K (21), and neighbour Ramu A (38), who was driving the car. Police recovered the bodies at the scene and sent them to Pollachi Government Hospital for post‑mortem examinations. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation is underway to determine whether speeding or the lorry’s placement contributed to the crash.

The accident caused temporary traffic disruption on the busy highway while rescue teams cleared the wreckage. Authorities have highlighted the incident amid a series of recent fatal road accidents in Tamil Nadu, calling attention to road‑safety concerns.
