Coimbatore man killed by friend following personal dispute

A 62-year-old DMK functionary, identified as Nagaraj, was killed on Friday morning in Vellimalaipattinam village near Thondamuthur, on the outskirts of Coimbatore. According to police, the victim was intercepted while riding his two-wheeler to a tea shop by his long-time friend, 65-year-old Kandasamy.

The attack involved Kandasamy allegedly throwing chilli powder into Nagaraj’s face before attacking him with a knife. Nagaraj sustained multiple stab wounds to his neck and abdomen, dying at the scene. Investigations suggest the motive stemmed from a personal dispute regarding Kandasamy’s suspicions about Nagaraj’s relationship with his late wife.

Following the attack, Kandasamy reportedly attempted suicide by slitting his hand. He was rescued by family members and admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for treatment. This incident marks the ninth murder reported in the Coimbatore district during the month of August, with authorities noting that most recent killings in the area have been driven by personal reasons.
