Coimbatore police arrest six in fatal engineering student assault

Police in Coimbatore have arrested six individuals, including a 17-year-old juvenile, in connection with the fatal assault of 19-year-old engineering student Amudhan. The victim, a third-year student at Hindustan College of Engineering and Technology, died after being allegedly beaten with wooden logs and iron rods near Malumichampatti.

The investigation suggests the attack was linked to an earlier incident in Poonga Nagar, where a group allegedly entered a house, assaulted a student named Ilavarasan, and stole mobile phones. Police believe Amudhan was identified as being involved in that theft. Following the initial confrontation, Amudhan and a friend were intercepted and taken to a ground behind the college where the assault occurred.

College officials clarified that the incident took place off-campus. The principal noted that Amudhan had been suspended in July following an incident involving canteen staff. While the victim's family raised allegations regarding drug peddling on campus, police stated they have found no evidence linking the murder to drug-related activities.
