Coimbatore student arrested for stealing gold to buy motorcycle for boyfriend

A 19-year-old college student, R. Joy Princy, has been arrested in Coimbatore for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from a friend’s house to purchase a motorcycle for her boyfriend.

According to police, the theft occurred when Princy visited the home of Tamil Selvan in the Pollachi area. She reportedly stole nine sovereigns of gold jewellery that had been hidden inside a beer bottle. The investigation began after Selvan filed a police complaint regarding the missing items.

Authorities were alerted to the crime after Princy posted a video on social media showing her surprising her boyfriend, Janakan Siva, with the new luxury bike. Following questioning, Princy allegedly confessed to selling the stolen gold to fund the ₹2.5 lakh purchase. While Princy has been sent to judicial custody, police are currently searching for Siva, who is reported to be absconding.
