Coimbra industrial fire destroys Biovia waste management warehouse

A violent fire destroyed a warehouse belonging to the waste management company Biovia – Engenharia e Gestão Ambiental in the Pedrulha area of Coimbra. The blaze broke out shortly after midnight and involved complex materials, including various types of fuels.

Emergency services, including three fire departments with approximately 45 personnel and 15 vehicles, were mobilized to combat the flames. While the fire was brought under control by 01:45, the building was completely destroyed. No injuries were reported, and no vehicles were inside the facility at the time of the incident.

As a precaution, approximately 30 residents from the nearest building were advised to leave their homes for over an hour during the height of the fire. The blaze also spread to nearby brushland, complicating the visual situation for responders.
