Coimbra hosts European partners to promote sustainable food

The Coimbra Metropolitan Region hosted a study visit as part of the European FISSH project, an INTERREG Europe initiative focused on promoting healthy eating and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food sector.

The event brought together 23 participants from regions in Finland, Greece, Belgium, and Poland. The program focused on marketing, consumption, and consumer perception regarding sustainable food products, demonstrating how territories can organize around local product valuation and the relationship between producers and consumers.

Key presentations included the Food Strategy 2022-2030 and various regional projects such as Coimbra Gastronomic Region, Market Route, and the PROVERE Cheese and Wine project. Participants visited several institutions, including the Coimbra Higher School of Agriculture, INOPOL, and locations in Cantanhede. The visit also featured the sharing of best practices and an experimental study on using ultraviolet rays to combat mildew and oidium in Bairrada vineyards.
