Coimbra hosts jazz and rockabilly music festivals
Coimbra is hosting two distinct musical events. The 24th edition of the Jazz ao Centro Festival will take place from October 1 to 10. This year, the festival emphasizes educational outreach, aiming to connect with schools, local communities, and various municipalities in the region, including Miranda do Corvo, Pampilhosa da Serra, Lousã, and Mortágua.
The jazz festival kicks off on World Music Day with an exhibition titled ‘As mulheres no Jazz em Portugal’ by Márcia Lessa. The organizers aim to use arts and culture as transformative tools within an educational context for children and youth.
Separately, the sixth edition of the ‘Action Packed’ festival will be held from September 17 to 20. This event focuses on 1950s Rockabilly culture, featuring international bands from France, Germany, and the Netherlands, alongside DJs from the United States, Belgium, and Spain. The festival includes concerts, a photographic exhibition by Francisco Olivera, a flea market, and a showcase of classic vehicles to recreate the era's atmosphere.
