Coimbra identifies 21 offenders for illegal waste disposal
The Coimbra City Council has identified 21 offenders for the improper disposal of urban waste, including bulky items, following inspection operations conducted on August 13 and 14. The enforcement actions took place in the parishes of Santo António dos Olivais, Eiras, São Paulo de Frades, Trouxemil, and Torre de Vilela.
These operations, carried out by the Municipal Licensing and Activity Inspection Division, targeted critical areas where waste is frequently abandoned in public spaces, private lands, or near recycling points. The city council noted that the identified offenders will face administrative proceedings and potential fines.
Under local regulations, individuals found abandoning urban waste may face fines ranging from 250 to 1,500 euros, while legal entities can be fined between 1,250 and 22,000 euros. The municipality reminds citizens that the collection of bulky items, electronic waste, and green waste must be scheduled in advance through the Division of Circular Economy and Environmental Protection.
