Coimbra Prison: Woman arrested for smuggling drugs in footwear

A 44-year-old woman has been detained after attempting to smuggle drugs into the Coimbra Prison in Portugal. The drugs were found impregnated into a sheet of paper, which was hidden inside one of her sneakers.

The discovery was made during a routine inspection prior to inmate visitation hours. Following an alert from prison services, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) intervened. Investigations revealed that the paper contained various synthetic cannabis substances. The woman has been detained pending a judicial interrogation and faces charges of aggravated drug trafficking.
