Coimbra transport survey reveals frequent SMTUC delays

A survey conducted by the Union of Parishes of Eiras and São Paulo de Frades in Coimbra reveals significant dissatisfaction with the municipal urban transport services (SMTUC). Out of 172 participants, 96% reported experiencing delays, with 71% stating these delays occur frequently.

Key issues identified include low service frequency, which received the lowest rating of 1.68 out of 5, followed by low overall satisfaction and poor punctuality. Residents specifically highlighted lines 25, 36, and 30 as being most prone to delays. Other major complaints involve inadequate route coverage, unreliable real-time information via the SMTUC application, and schedules that do not accommodate shift workers or weekend travelers.

The study also noted overcrowding on lines 53 and 39 due to high student demand and identified several areas with insufficient or non-existent coverage, including Rua de Montargil, Monte Formoso, and São Paulo de Frades. While service quality scores were low, the friendliness of drivers received the highest rating of 3.03.
