Coinbase Derivatives to launch US500 perpetual futures on Aug. 17
Coinbase Derivatives announced that its US500 equity index perpetual‑style futures contract will go live on August 17. The contract tracks the S&P 500 benchmark, offering U.S. traders leveraged exposure to the broadest U.S. equity index via a crypto‑native platform.
The product provides up to 20 times leverage and has no fixed expiry, using periodic funding rates to keep the price aligned with the underlying index. Coinbase is also seeking CFTC approval to allow USDC stablecoins to be used as collateral instead of fiat.
No trading volume or market reaction data are available yet, and the high leverage and funding‑rate mechanisms present significant risk for traders during volatile market conditions.
