Coinbase introduces AI-driven management for crypto perpetuals

Coinbase is expanding its service offerings with a new AI-driven feature that allows agents to manage cryptocurrency perpetuals and index tokens on behalf of users. CEO Brian Armstrong announced the development, which aims to enhance user engagement by integrating AI applications within Coinbase Advanced Portfolios.

This move follows regulatory approval for the platform to offer global crypto perpetual futures to users in the United States. The integration of AI-driven management is expected to potentially influence market dynamics, particularly regarding Ethereum volume.

As a publicly listed company on the Nasdaq, Coinbase operates under various regulatory frameworks, including a New York BitLicense. The company has previously faced regulatory scrutiny, including a $50 million penalty in 2023 from New York regulators regarding anti-money laundering compliance, and fines from authorities in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
