Coinbase launches derivatives trading for professional investors in the UK

Coinbase has announced the rollout of derivatives trading for professional investors in the United Kingdom. The offering includes more than 170 contracts covering crypto assets, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange.

The platform will provide three types of contracts: perpetuals, which offer up to 50x leverage and trade 24/7; dated futures, which carry up to 20x leverage; and crypto options. This expansion is part of the company’s “Everything Exchange” strategy, which aims to integrate various asset classes and instrument types into a single regulated platform.

The launch follows the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) granting Coinbase a MiFID-equivalent investment services authorization in July 2026. While the new products are available to professional clients, the FCA’s 2021 ban on the sale of crypto derivatives to retail consumers remains in place, meaning retail investors are excluded from these offerings.
