Coinbase launches zero‑commission US stock trading for UK users
Coinbase began offering UK customers access to nearly 4,000 U.S. equities on 6 August 2026. The service provides zero‑commission trades, fractional shares starting at £1, and 24‑hour, five‑day (24/5) market access. Orders can be funded with British pounds or the stablecoin USDC, allowing instant settlement without converting to fiat. The rollout follows a MiFID‑equivalent licence granted by the UK Financial Conduct Authority to Coinbase’s subsidiary CB Payments Ltd, enabling regulated provision of equities and derivatives. Execution and custody are handled by Apex Clearing in the United States, with SIPC protection up to $500,000 per account. Coinbase frames the launch as part of its “Everything Exchange” strategy to combine crypto, stocks, savings and borrowing in a single app, marking the first crypto‑native platform to offer U.S. stock trading in the UK. The Bybit tokenised‑equities expansion is unrelated and excluded.
