Coinsbuy hit by $8 million multi-chain security breach

The cryptocurrency payments platform Coinsbuy was targeted in a coordinated multi-chain security breach on August 9, 2026. An attacker siphoned approximately $7.9 million to $8 million in assets across the Ethereum and TRON networks.

Forensic analysis suggests the attacker used a synchronized approach, potentially exploiting the platform’s withdrawal system rather than compromising private keys. This is supported by the fact that Coinsbuy replenished the affected wallets from its own reserves shortly after the incident. To obscure the trail, the perpetrator routed a significant portion of the stolen funds through the non-custodial exchange FixedFloat and attempted to convert assets into the privacy coin Monero to hinder traceability. ChangeNOW reportedly assisted in freezing a six-figure portion of the assets.

Coinsbuy has stated that all impacted client funds have been fully covered by the company’s reserves, ensuring no direct financial loss for users. The platform has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the responsible parties, along with additional bonuses for assistance in fund recovery.
