Colbún reports 12% EBITDA increase for second quarter
Colbún S.A. reported an EBITDA of US$156.9 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking a 12% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Despite this growth, quarterly profit fell 24% to US$36.6 million due to non-recurring effects, including the early cancellation of coal contracts signed in 2022 and higher financial expenses.
The reporting period was characterized by challenging hydrological conditions in Chile, with precipitation deficits reaching up to 89% below the average in major basins. This led to a significant decrease in hydroelectric generation, which was offset by increased renewable and thermal generation. Total generation for Colbún rose 19% year-over-year, driven by the return of the Santa María plant, contributions from the Horizonte Wind Farm, and higher dispatch from the Nehuenco Complex gas plants.
In Peru, the subsidiary Fenix Power saw increased revenue from regulated customers following new contracts with distribution companies.
