Colácteos to support Colombian dairy farmers amid plant closures

The private company Colácteos has announced support for dairy farmers in the Ipiales region of Colombia who may be affected by the closure of clandestine processing plants. These plants have been identified as sources of water pollution in the area.

Approximately 240 producers in Cumbal, Ipiales, and surrounding sectors could face difficulties marketing their daily milk production due to these closures. To mitigate economic losses, Colácteos is proposing training programs to help farmers improve their processes and meet new industry standards.

Additionally, the company is considering direct purchases of milk from affected producers. Colácteos official Andrés Oviedo stated that while volume is a factor, milk quality will be a primary criterion for these purchases to ensure producers meet established standards and receive competitive pricing.
