Brazil weather: Cold fronts and moisture channels bring rain and temperature shifts
A combination of advancing cold fronts and the formation of a new moisture channel is reorganizing weather patterns across Brazil. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), these systems are bringing a return of rainfall to the North, Center-West, and Northeast regions, while simultaneously driving down temperatures in the South and Southeast.
In the North and Northeast, instability is causing thunderstorms in states such as Amazonas, Roraima, Pará, and Tocantins, as well as parts of Maranhão, Piauí, and Bahia. Temperatures in these areas remain high, with peaks reaching up to 39°C in Teresina. Meanwhile, the Center-West is experiencing isolated thunderstorms in Mato Grosso, Goiás, and the Distrito Federal.
In the South and Southeast, a cold, dry air mass is significantly lowering temperatures. In the South, minimums are dropping sharply, with some high-altitude areas in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul potentially approaching 0°C. The Southeast is seeing a mix of conditions, including thunderstorms in Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Rio de Janeiro, while parts of São Paulo experience milder temperatures and decreasing cloud cover.
