Cold Front Brings Freezing Temperatures to Southern Brazil

A polar air mass is moving into southern Brazil, bringing markedly colder weather. In Rio Grande do Sul, the mass will cause widespread cloud cover, fog and temperatures dropping to near‑zero. Forecasts indicate minima between 0 °C and 5 °C in most interior areas, with the higher terrain of the southeast highlands possibly reaching –3 °C to –5 °C, and even brief sub‑zero readings in some spots. Porto Alegre can expect early‑week mornings at 6 °C–7 °C, with lows of 2 °C–3 °C in southern and eastern neighborhoods.

In the neighboring state of Paraná, the weekend will also be chilly. Saturday temperatures will stay below 10 °C in much of the state, with occasional sunshine but persistent low clouds and fog. Geothermal frost is not expected. By Sunday, the atmospheric instability returns, bringing widespread cloudiness and a heightened risk of moderate to heavy rain, especially across the north and northwest of Paraná. The weather service has warned of possible intense showers during the afternoon period.
