Argentina sees widespread cold spell as temperatures rise in some regions

Mid‑winter across Argentina brings a cold spell with varying conditions by province. In the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, the national meteorology service forecasts minimums of 3‑6 °C and a maximum of 16 °C on Monday, with a gradual warming trend over the coming days. Misiones Province faces a yellow alert for extreme cold, with overnight lows near 0 °C and daytime highs around 14‑23 °C, while neighboring Formosa, Chaco and Corrientes also carry the alert.

In the southeast, Adolfo Gonzales Chaves expects a minimum of –1 °C and a maximum of 9 °C, with scattered showers, and Bahía Blanca will see lows around 2 °C and highs not exceeding 11 °C. Comodoro Rivadavia and Rada Tilly (Chubut) have a yellow snow alert, with temperatures ranging from 3 °C to 12 °C and isolated rain or drizzle. Mendoza experiences the warm Zonda wind this week, raising highs to about 21 °C before a new polar air mass brings cooler weather.

Santa Fe reports mild, stable conditions with a 5‑17 °C range, while Villa María (Córdoba) sees a steady climb from 5‑17 °C to 15‑25 °C and strong north winds prompting fire‑risk warnings. Santiago del Estero records a rapid temperature rise from 3 °C to as high as 27 °C by Friday. Experts say the current polar front is receding, but subsequent weeks could bring another cold wave, a pattern that typically repeats three to six times each Argentine winter.
