Brazil faces frost risk as cold front hits South and Southeast

A cold front moving across Brazil is expected to bring a sharp temperature drop in the southern and southeastern states from June 17 onward. Meteorological agencies including Climatempo, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) and MetSul forecast minimum temperatures near 0 °C in the highlands of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná and the serrated regions of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, raising the possibility of isolated frost. Rain is forecast to return to western Rio Grande do Sul with occasional thunderstorms, while the northern region will continue to experience heavy showers.

The front will also increase cloud cover and wind gusts across the affected areas, but is not expected to produce large volumes of rain. A second, stronger cold incursion is predicted for the following week.
