Cold Front Triggers Fog and Yellow Alerts Across Minas Gerais
A cold air mass moving into Minas Gerais is expected to cause sharp temperature drops and fog formation, prompting authorities to issue safety warnings. The concessionaire EPR Sul de Minas highlighted several highway sections prone to reduced visibility, including BR‑459 between Pouso Alegre and Santa Rita do Sapucaí, MG‑290 between Borda da Mata, Ouro Fino and Jacutinga, and MGC‑146 between Poços de Caldas and Andradas. Drivers were advised to lower speed, keep headlights on low beam, maintain safe distances and avoid overtaking in foggy conditions.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) simultaneously issued a yellow alert for potential danger due to low temperatures in 178 municipalities across the state, covering regions such as Sul/Sudoeste, Zona da Mata and Campos das Vertentes. Temperatures are expected to fall by 3 °C to 5 °C, with the alert remaining in effect for the entire day. Residents were urged to stay informed through civil defense channels and to seek assistance if needed.
