Cold weather impacts crops in Guatemala and Argentina

In Guatemala, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food (MAGA) has warned that incoming cold fronts are increasing crop vulnerability in the departments of San Marcos, Huehuetenango, Quiché, and Sololá. Based on meteorological forecasts, the temperature drops—particularly during nights and early mornings—pose risks to seedlings, young plants, and crops such as corn, beans, and vegetables. Authorities recommend using temporary covers for plants and monitoring humidity to prevent disease.

In Argentina, despite low solar radiation, frost, and low temperatures in October, the Rosario Grain Exchange (BCR) projects a wheat production of 6.7 million tons. While this is lower than the previous record-breaking season, it remains approximately 60% higher than the 16-year historical average. The report notes that corn and soybean plantings are also experiencing the effects of the cold weather.
