Cold weather persists in Southern Brazil with frost and low temperatures
Cold weather and frost have returned to the Serra Catarinense region in Brazil, despite the spring season. In São Joaquim, temperatures reached 1.4 °C, while Morro da Igreja recorded a minimum of −0.5 °C. Meteorologists attribute these conditions to an extratropical cyclone off the southern coast, which transported polar air masses into the region.
Following a brief period of heat, a new cold air mass is expected to advance across Brazil starting Sunday, October 25. This system is projected to cause temperatures to drop below average through the end of October and into early November. The affected areas include the South, Southeast, and Central-West regions, specifically impacting the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul.
