Coldiretti Alessandria requests earlier pigeon control measures

Coldiretti Alessandria has requested the Province of Alessandria to advance the start of pigeon control measures by one month. The agricultural association argues that the current schedule, which allows for firearm use from October 1 to January 31, does not align with biological cycles and harvest times, leading to significant damage before interventions can begin.

Pigeon infestations are cited as a major concern for farmers, second only to wild boar. Regional estimates suggest annual losses of approximately 5 million euros across agriculture and livestock, involving the destruction of crops such as cereals, soy, and sunflower, as well as the contamination of animal feed and risks of disease transmission.
