Coldiretti Caserta protests new environmental protection zones

Coldiretti Caserta has requested an urgent meeting with the Campania Region's Agriculture and Environment departments following the establishment of four new Special Protection Areas (ZPS). These EU-mandated zones, designated for bird protection, cover areas including Castel Volturno, Cancello ed Arnone, Mondragone, Monte Origlio, Bosco Cuccari, and Monteverde.

Local agricultural representatives expressed concern that the regional decree, effective since July 6, imposes significant restrictions, increased bureaucracy, and operational uncertainty on farmers. Enrico Amico, president of Coldiretti Caserta, stated that while the organization supports environmental protection, the decision was made without consulting the agricultural sector. He emphasized that the affected territories are highly productive regions involved in buffalo zootechnics, horticulture, and arable farming, and called for a dialogue to balance environmental conservation with agricultural production.
