Coldiretti Puglia calls for improved water infrastructure and lower costs
Coldiretti Puglia is calling for a multi-year regional strategy to address water availability, infrastructure modernization, and rising costs for agriculture and citizens. While water availability in the Capitanata reservoirs of Foggia has increased compared to 2025, the organization warns that the current situation does not resolve the underlying water crisis.
According to ANBI Observatory data as of October 6, 2026, the four artificial reservoirs in the Foggia province hold a combined 98.12 million cubic meters, up from 53.49 million cubic meters the previous year. However, this total represents less than 30% of the authorized capacity of 331.9 million cubic meters. The Occhito dam remains a critical strategic reserve with 87.40 million cubic meters available.
Beyond physical availability, Coldiretti Puglia highlighted the economic burden on agricultural businesses, noting that increasing irrigation tariffs and fees make it difficult for farmers to utilize available resources.
