Coldplay achieves 59% reduction in tour emissions
Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour, spanning 2022 to 2025, has successfully met and exceeded the band’s 2019 pledge to find more sustainable ways to perform globally. The tour achieved a 59% reduction in direct CO2 emissions per show compared to their previous tour, surpassing their original goal of halving emissions.
The band utilized a “12-point sustainability plan” centered on the principles of reduce, reinvent, and restore. To ensure scientific accuracy, environmental consultancy Hope Solutions collected data from each performance, which was subsequently analyzed by MIT.
Key logistical improvements included the use of electric vehicles, biofuels, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to minimize the environmental impact of transporting equipment and personnel. These measures resulted in a 33% reduction in pollution from freight transport and prevented the release of 3,000 tonnes of CO2 through air travel.
