Cole Palmer apologizes after red card in Chelsea loss to Tottenham

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer issued a public apology to supporters following his first professional red card during a 2-0 home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge. Palmer was dismissed in the 80th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a challenge on Conor Gallagher.

The loss was compounded by an own goal from goalkeeper Mike Penders in the 77th minute, followed by a goal from Mathys Tel in the 87th minute. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso noted that the dismissal shifted the momentum of the match, stating that the team must learn to handle pressure with more maturity.

Due to the suspension, Palmer will miss Chelsea’s upcoming Carabao Cup match against Liverpool. However, he is expected to be available for the Premier League fixture against Manchester United on October 31. The incident also raises questions regarding Palmer’s standing with the England national team ahead of upcoming squad announcements by manager Thomas Tuchel.
