Colegio de Periodistas de Honduras condemns Rixi Moncada's remarks

The Colegio de Periodistas de Honduras (CPH) has issued a formal condemnation of statements made by Rixi Moncada, a leader of the Libertad y Refundación party, who referred to journalists as ‘sicarios de la información’ (hitmen of information).

The CPH argues that such derogatory labels are part of a political self-promotion strategy intended to intimidate, discredit, and stigmatize the journalistic profession. The organization warned that this rhetoric degrades public debate and erodes constitutional guarantees and press freedom.

The CPH also highlighted Moncada’s previous tenure as Secretary of Defense, noting that during that period, then-Chief of the Joint Staff Roosevelt Hernández also engaged in disparaging remarks against the press. Consequently, the CPH has requested that the Special Prosecutor's Office for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, Journalists, Social Communicators, and Justice Operators (FEPRODDHH) launch an investigation into potential judicial persecution and attacks against media professionals stemming from military institutions.
