Coles Group shows consistent dividend growth and market resilience

Coles Group Ltd, a major Australian retailer, has demonstrated consistent growth in its dividend payouts and share price. Since spinning off from Wesfarmers Ltd, the company has increased its annual supermarket division dividend every year, even through periods of inflation and economic volatility.

For the 2026 financial year, Coles reported an underlying net profit after tax growth of 13.7% to $1.25 billion, supporting a 13% increase in the annual dividend to 78 cents per share. Projections from CommSec suggest the dividend could rise further to 83.5 cents per share in FY27.

As a key player in the Australian consumer staples sector, Coles holds approximately 28% of the grocery market. The company's diversified business model includes liquor, fuel, and financial services, which contributes to its reputation as a defensive blue-chip stock capable of weathering economic downturns.
