Colfecar proposes replacing five Colombian holidays with vacation days
Colfecar, the Colombian Federation of Cargo and Logistics Transporters, has proposed eliminating five public holidays from the national calendar and converting them into additional vacation days for workers.
Presented by Board President Sebastián Echeverry during the association's congress, the initiative aims to mitigate the economic impact of mobility restrictions on freight transport. The sector argues that current holiday long weekends cause operational paralysis, with trucks potentially losing up to 24 hours of operation per holiday.
Colfecar noted that with 19 holidays scheduled for 2027, the resulting restrictions hinder national competitiveness and continuous goods flow. The proposal seeks to maintain worker rest periods by shifting the days to annual leave while ensuring more uninterrupted transit for the logistics industry.
