Colgate defeats No. 22 Villanova 28-21 in ranked matchup
No. 23 Colgate secured a 28-21 victory over No. 22 Villanova on a rain-soaked Saturday at Villanova Stadium. This win marks Colgate’s first victory over Villanova since 1978 and their first win against a ranked opponent since 2023.
Quarterback Jake Stearney led the Raiders with 158 passing yards and three touchdowns. Caleb Naumann contributed 66 rushing yards and a touchdown, including a 6-yard run in the first quarter to tie the game. Matt Fogler added a 41-yard touchdown reception, while Chief Montalvo caught a 12-yard touchdown pass to help build a two-possession lead in the second half.
Colgate’s defense played a decisive role, recording seven sacks and nine interceptions on the season. Trooper Price led the defensive effort with nine tackles and a sack. In the final moments, Jordan Edgecomb recovered a fumble and tackled Villanova quarterback Pat McQuade on a fourth-down attempt to seal the win. Villanova’s Pat McQuade threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
