Colima government establishes technical standards for adapted taxis

The government of Colima has published a new technical regulation in the Official Gazette to govern adapted public transport services for people with disabilities and limited mobility. Managed by the Undersecretariat of Mobility (Subsemov), the regulation sets mandatory safety and structural requirements for vehicles.

Key specifications for the adapted units include a maximum age of three to four years, ABS brakes, four-point chassis anchors for wheelchairs, and ramps or elevators capable of supporting 300 kg. Additionally, vehicles must feature air conditioning, wide-access doors, flame-retardant seating, and ABC-type fire extinguishers.

The regulation follows a public consultation process held in August and includes technical input from state and municipal DIF teams. Blanca Ballesteros Uribe, head of Subsemov, stated that the rules provide legal certainty and clear guidelines to ensure safe and autonomous transport for citizens.
