Colima launches strategy to combat acute malnutrition in children
The Colima State Government, led by Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva, has launched a new inter-institutional strategy to address acute malnutrition in children under five years old. The initiative, titled ‘Nutriendo Futuros Saludables’ (Nurturing Healthy Futures), is being implemented in coordination with the Mexican federal government following an agreement by the National Council for Health and Wellbeing (Conasabi).
To support this effort, the state has formalized a Technical Inter-institutional Group. This group is tasked with establishing coordination mechanisms to improve the detection, care, and social assistance for affected children through a multisectoral model. Health Secretary Víctor Manuel Torrero Enríquez stated that the strategy shifts from a reactive approach to a proactive one, focusing on a continuous route of detection and accompaniment to ensure children receive necessary care.
