Colin Simmons credits Will Muschamp for transforming Texas defense

Texas junior edge rusher Colin Simmons has identified defensive coordinator Will Muschamp as the primary strength of the Longhorns' defense heading into the 2026 season. Simmons noted that Muschamp has implemented a more aggressive tone and standard during fall camp compared to previous years.

According to Simmons, Muschamp’s approach emphasizes intense preparation, requiring players to deeply understand formations, coverages, and blitz decisions. This shift in culture and scheme aims to ensure players are fully prepared before leaving meetings and are ready to play aggressively on the field.

Simmons, who led the SEC with 12 sacks last season, is looking to build on his previous performance. He is currently pursuing the SEC career record for sacks, previously held by Will Anderson Jr.
