Collectible design rises as new luxury standard in Middle East

A shift in luxury consumption is occurring in the Middle East, as collectors in cities like Dubai, Riyadh, and Doha increasingly prioritize collectible design over traditional logo-centric luxury. This movement treats unique, artisan-made furniture and lighting sculptures as significant cultural assets and investment pieces.

In Dubai, the Downtown Design fair has become a central institution for this trend. Held at the Dubai Design District under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the event has grown significantly. The 2025 edition featured over 1,000 designers from more than 50 countries and attracted approximately 100,000 visitors. The fair's growth has established Dubai as a key destination for international collectible-design galleries, alongside traditional design hubs like Milan, Paris, and Basel.
