Collector swaps Audi R8 for $140,000 Pokémon card stash

Geoff Pritchett, a Pokémon card collector, announced on a Facebook community that he traded his Audi R8 sports car for a collection of Pokémon Trading Card Game items valued at roughly US$140,000. The deal included about US$75,000 worth of sealed Sun & Moon‑era product boxes and another US$65,000 in individual cards, many of which are rare from the 2017‑2019 period.

Pritchett posted photos of the R8 alongside piles of sealed packs and storage boxes, noting that he would later release a video documenting the exchange. He said the car’s market price ranges between US$40,000 and US$160,000, depending on model and condition, while high‑value Pokémon cards have become increasingly sought after as older products leave production. Recent high‑profile sales, such as Logan Paul’s multi‑million‑dollar Pikachu Illustrator card, illustrate the growing appetite for premium collectibles.

The trade highlights a broader trend of collectors swapping luxury assets for rare gaming memorabilia, underscoring the rising monetary significance of the Pokémon card market.
