Colleen Hoover addresses ‘It Ends With Us’ film controversy

Author Colleen Hoover has addressed the behind-the-scenes controversy surrounding the film adaptation of her novel, ‘It Ends With Us’. Speaking with Variety, Hoover expressed pride in the film and its cast, specifically praising the performances of Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Brandon Sklenar.

Hoover noted that she saw the completed film before the public tensions between Lively and Baldoni became known. The controversy, which surfaced during the film’s promotional tour in August 2024, involved reported disagreements over creative direction, editing, and marketing. While the film’s narrative focuses on domestic violence, some promotional efforts were criticized for emphasizing romantic elements.

Regarding the possibility of a sequel based on her follow-up novel, ‘It Starts With Us’, Hoover clarified that she does not own the film rights and therefore cannot confirm if a production will occur.
