Pitt QB Mason Heintschel ruled out for season with ACL tear

Pitt Panthers sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee. The injury occurred during a game against Virginia Tech, where Heintschel was tackled awkwardly while scrambling for a first down.

Despite the loss of their starting quarterback, Pitt secured a 35-33 victory to improve their record to 5-0. Backup quarterback Holden Geriner filled in for the remainder of the contest. Head coach Pat Narduzzi expressed heartbreak over the injury but praised the team's resilience and Heintschel's determination.

In a separate college football development, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel addressed a mid-game quarterback change during a 24-14 win over Auburn. Heupel replaced starter Faizon Brandon with sophomore George MacIntyre late in the first half. MacIntyre finished 8-for-10 for 86 yards, helping the offense generate 21 points in the second half.
