College football programs finalize 2026 starting quarterbacks

As the 2026 college football season approaches, several programs have finalized their starting quarterback decisions and significant transfer portal moves are shaping team trajectories.

Georgia Southern has named Max Johnson as its starting quarterback, marking his seventh season of eligibility and his fourth collegiate program. Johnson, a former four-star prospect from LSU, previously played for Texas A&M.

In the Power Four, Alabama named redshirt freshman Keelon Russell as its starter, while North Carolina selected Wisconsin transfer Billy Edwards. Additionally, Auburn has bolstered its roster with the addition of Byrum Brown from South Florida, a move intended to provide stability following a 5-7 season.
