College football teams UAB and Alabama hold fall camp scrimmages

College football programs UAB and Alabama are progressing through their respective fall training camps with recent scrimmage sessions.

The UAB Blazers held a situational scrimmage under the lights at the Legacy Pavilion. Head coach Alex Mortensen utilized a format focused on specific down-and-distance and game-management scenarios rather than traditional uninterrupted play. The defense recorded 11 sacks during the session, led by Marlin Dean with 3.5 sacks.

Alabama has been navigating injuries within its wide receiver and running back units. Senior wide receiver Noah Rodgers and sophomore Lotzeir Brooks are expected to miss time, while running backs AK Dear and EJ Crowell are also sidelined. Despite these absences, head coach Kalen DeBoer highlighted the emergence of sophomore wide receiver Derek Meadows as a red zone threat and noted the speed of junior Rico Scott.
