College hockey previews highlight Providence and Alaska

The 2026-27 men’s college hockey season is approaching, featuring previews for both conference and independent programs.

In the Hockey East Conference, Providence is ranked as the top team following a successful regular season. The Friars are expected to remain dominant due to a returning roster that includes key players such as John Mustard, Logan Sawyer, and Tanner Adams. The team also maintains a strong defensive presence and goaltending led by sophomore Jack Parsons.

In the independent category, the Alaska Nanooks enter the season as the defending United Collegiate Hockey Cup champions. After finishing last season as the highest-ranked independent team, the Nanooks face challenges including a heavy road schedule and the loss of five of their top six scorers. Sophomore Rylen Roersma and newcomer Dominik Bartecko are expected to play significant roles in addressing these offensive gaps.
