College Pitcher Jake Entrup Survives Rattlesnake Bite After Receiving 34 Antivenom Doses

22‑year‑old former Citrus College pitcher Jake Entrup was bitten by a rattlesnake on July 18 while hiking with his mother and their dogs on the Wilderness Park trails near Higginbotham Park in Southern California. He felt immediate, severe pain and temporary vision loss. A passing nurse kept him calm until emergency responders arrived.

Entrup was airlifted to Pomona Valley Trauma Center, where doctors administered 20 vials of antivenom. When the hospital’s supply ran out, he was transferred by ambulance to Los Angeles County General Hospital and received an additional 14 vials, totaling 34 doses—about twice the amount usually required. He has since been released, is using crutches, and faces a long rehabilitation while planning to continue his baseball career and begin graduate studies. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover medical and lost‑wage costs.
